We're well into the holiday season - Christmas is only two days away. Which means that precious golden rule - two days off a week - isn't so precious anymore and I've been partying my head off.
As much fun as that is, there's a sobering thought (N.P.I.) bubbling in the background - and that is that in five weeks time, I'll be back on a cleanse. I usually take February and August off and my first yearly cleanse is only 30-odd days away now. There's much fun (and drinking) to be done until then of course - in fact, the weeks leading up to a cleanse are some of the most fun-filled of the year.
But still, I can't help but be amazed at how fast five months of drinking goes by. When a cleanse is over and the other one is still half a year away, it seems as if you're looking waaaaay down the road at some event that seems infinitely distant, like populating Mars or something. And then you see it coming. You see the whites of its eyes. And you think, Hello, old friend, we shall soon meet again.
But that's all weeks away yet! The holidays are upon us!! It's party time! And if we're bittersweet about it because this time of year slips by so quickly ... let's remember Shakespeare's words on the subject of holidays. He's usually a pretty astute judge of a situation and can definitely turn a phrase.
"If all the year were playing holidays, to sport would be as tedious as to work."
